In December of 2024, WHF conservationist, Ron Jankowiak, planned and assisted on a 2-acre native grass and wildflower planting project in collaboration with Memorial Park Conservancy on one of the medians along Memorial Drive as a part of a large-scale effort to maintain the ecological resiliency of the park while also enhancing the natural aesthetics for park goers. Proper site preparation was completed several weeks beforehand including termination of the existing vegetation. Planting services were provided to WHF by Curtis Wildlife and Ag utilizing a no-till seed drill to minimize ground disturbance. The median was planted to a diverse mix of native grasses and forbs, including little bluestem, Indiangrass, side oats grama, beebalm, bluebonnet, and swamp sunflower.
