Loy Sneary Appointed as Chairman of WHF

Cat Spring, TX – June 6, 2025 – Wildlife Habitat Federation (WHF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Loy Sneary as the new Chairman of the Board of Trustees, effective immediately. Sneary, who has served as Vice Chair since 2021, succeeds James Loyd Fatheree, Jr., and brings a wealth of experience in conservation, business, and leadership to guide WHF’s mission of engaging land managers in conservation practices that deliver measurable improvements in soil and wildlife habitat conservation.

Loy Sneary, Managing Partner of Sneary Cattle and President & CEO of Gulf Coast Green Energy, is a dedicated advocate for sustainable land management and environmental stewardship. Sneary Cattle, part of a diversified agricultural business including Windmill Hay Farms and L&H Farms, has raised commercial beef cattle and quality replacement heifers for more than 40 years. The operation utilizes adaptive high stock density grazing which is restoring the health of the soil, increasing bird and wildlife habitat, as well as the amount of carbon sequestered compared to traditional grazing. Sneary’s prior role as Vice Chair of the WHF Board and early involvement with the nonprofit has equipped him with deep insight into the organization’s operations and its commitment to fostering collaborative conservation efforts.

“Loy Sneary’s passion for conservation and proven leadership make him the ideal choice to lead our Board,” said Garry L. Stephens, President & CEO of WHF. “His expertise and dedication to sustainable practices will drive our mission to create meaningful, measurable impacts for Texas wildlife and ecosystems.”

Under Sneary’s leadership, WHF aims to expand its conservation initiatives, including habitat restoration projects and partnerships with landowners, agencies, and organizations. His vision includes strengthening partnerships with landowners, businesses, and conservationists to promote practices that enhance soil health and biodiversity.

“I am honored to step into the role of Chairman and work alongside the talented WHF Board and staff,” said Sneary. “Together, we will continue to champion conservation strategies that preserve Texas’ natural heritage for future generations.”

Sneary is an Eagle Scout and graduated from Texas A&M University. As a longtime Matagorda County resident, he has served his community as county judge, founder and president of the Matagorda County Economic Development Corporation, Matagorda County Farmers Coop president and board member, and USA Rice Federation Western Hemisphere Market Development chairman. He served in the United States Navy for six years and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant. He lives in Bay City, Texas and he and his wife Helen have two children and four grandsons.
