Natural resources are sources of life. It is our goal to improve our quality of life through restoring our natural resources.
From small plots of land in the middle of Houston to large acreage ranches, we work to restore public and private lands to their highest ecological function anywhere we are given the opportunity.
Soil Quality
WHF can provide you with a management plan and boots-on-the-ground guidance to advance your land’s soil health.
Our goal is for your soil to be highly friable. This means it has a rich, crumbly texture that is ideal for root systems to grow deep and widespread. Friable soil also allows for better water absorption, decreasing run-off.
Enhanced Seed Mixes
Whether you are looking to improve aesthetics and welcome pollinators to your subdivision, or you would like to improve livestock grazing, our diversified seed mixes can help accomplish your vision.
Water Quality, Quantity and Retention
Through planting native grasses, WHF can help your land by slowing water run-off and by increasing water absorption. By reducing run-off, we reduce the amount of silt being dumped into the Gulf’s bays and estuaries, which in turn protects the plants and animals that live there.
Improved Air Quality
Native grasses sequester carbon.
The more grass you have, the more carbon is sequestered. It is a common misconception that trees can do this most effectively. While trees are certainly effective, native grasses are more efficient.
Native Plants & Animals
Our practices have proven to restore native plant and animal species back to historical conditions. Our methods allow nature to take control and bring back those desirable species that landowners love to see and that further benefit the ecosystem on your property.
Livestock Grazing
Not only is grass essential for keeping livestock healthy, livestock are essential to keeping grass healthy. Proper grazing management can help your land thrive.
Cattle bite onto grass and lift it from the soil, keeping the ground loose and friable. Then, the cattle digest and pass the food back onto the ground, helping add nutrients back into the soil. Then, they break up that manure as they move about in the pasture.
We can help you develop a management plan that will prevent over-grazing, then you can let your livestock do all the work from there.
