WHF has been working with Harris County Precinct 1 to restore a 15-acre native coastal prairie site. Almeda Road Nature Reserve is an ongoing restoration project that started about a year ago. The site has been heavily encroached upon by woody species and several invasive grasses. WHF’s recommended management practices have been implemented to remove the woody species and to gain control over the invasive grasses. Shown below is a great measure of our success so far, a stand of native big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii) has been able to flourish since restoration has begun.
